Zena, storia di un'orca
In Italia il 2 dicembre 2019 un gruppo di cinque orche (un maschio, tre femmine e un cucciolo) viene avvistato nel porto di Genova. Vengono dall’Islanda: la migrazione di maggior distanza mai registrata per questi mammiferi.
Il piccolo smette di respirare e la madre, chiamata Zena, passa parecchi giorni a tentare di rianimarlo. Le orche poi ripartono e vengono avvistate prima in Sicilia e poi in Libano, a oltre 8.000 kilometri dall’Islanda. Perché hanno fatto un viaggio tanto lungo? Che cosa cercavano?
L’orca Zena è la protagonista di questa storia romanzata, raccontata da lei stessa, che ripercorre tutta la sua vita e offre una risposta fantasiosa e sorprendente.
Un viaggio che descrive la grande socialità delle orche, il loro comportamento e ripercorre anche il difficile rapporto con l’uomo.

El caso de las orcas genovesas se convierte en un libro.
El 2 de diciembre de 2019, un grupo de cinco orcas (un macho, tres hembras y un cachorro) es avistado en el puerto de Génova. Vienen de Islandia: la migración de mayor distancia jamás registrada para estos mamíferos. El bebé deja de respirar y la madre, llamada Zena, pasa varios días tratando de revivirlo. Las orcas se van y son vistas primero en Sicilia y luego en el Líbano, a más de 8.000 kilómetros de Islandia. ¿Por qué hicieron un viaje tan largo? ¿Qué estaban buscando?
La orca Zena es la protagonista de esta historia, contada por ella misma, que recorre toda su vida y ofrece una respuesta imaginativa y sorprendente. Un viaje que describe la gran socialidad de las orcas, su comportamiento y también traza la difícil relación con el hombre.
Andrea Izzotti, profesional independiente y fotógrafo de Génova, es el autor de esta novela, que cuenta con la colaboración de un artista internacional, Francisco Caamaño, que concibió y creó las ilustraciones.

The case of the “genoese” orcas becomes a book.
On December 2, 2019, a group of five killer whales (a male, three females and a puppy) is sighted in the port of Genoa. They come from Iceland: the longest distance migration ever recorded for these mammals. The baby stops breathing and the mother, called Zena, spends several days trying to revive him. The orcas then leave and are sighted first in Sicily and then in Lebanon, over 8,000 kilometres from Iceland. Why did they make such a long journey? What were they looking for?
The orca Zena is the protagonist of this story, told by herself, which retraces her whole life and offers an imaginative and surprising answer. A journey that describes the great sociality of orcas, their behaviour and also retraces their difficult relationship with man.
Andrea Izzotti, a freelance professional and photographer from Genoa, is the author of this novel, which has the collaboration of an international artist, Francisco Caamaño, who conceived and created the illustrations.
